OUR MISSION
To support progress in biomedicine by providing cutting-edge technologies, expertise, and services that bridge basic research with preclinical innovation, connect academia with industry, and transform ideas into tangible outcomes.
Biomedical research is among the strategic priorities of Masaryk University (MUNI). The University has a long-standing commitment to developing top-tier infrastructure for basic and clinical research and is systematically strengthening capacities that enable the effective translation of fundamental scientific knowledge into clinical practice.
The Preclinical Centre of MUNI (PC) was established in response to the need for modern infrastructure for preclinical research, particularly in the areas of animal in vivo models and advanced cellular and tissue-based ex vivo models derived from human cells.
These technologies are essential for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches while also reflecting the principles of the 3Rs (Reduction, Refinement, Replacement), which aim to minimise the use of laboratory animals.
The PC is part of the BioPharma Hub development project located at the University Campus Bohunice. From the end of 2026, the Centre will operate as a unique platform of spatially and functionally integrated units focused on preclinical research, combining state-of-the-art facilities for laboratory animal work with advanced cellular and 3D human model technologies, including organoids and complex tissue structures. As an open research infrastructure, the PC will be accessible to academic and non-academic users as well as industrial partners, significantly contributing to the integration of basic research, clinical medicine, and the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as to the practical education of master’s and Ph.D. students.
